The gaffer obviously had some harsh words to say during the break, as Norse came out looking fired up and ready to go. The home side started brightly, and kept the intensity up for the whole 45 minutes. Some great football led to chances for Mike, Clifford and Darran, but there was perhaps a lack of composure that comes from a lack of football and all of them were passed up. The referee brought an end to a fiercely competitive fixture, with lots of positives to take from the defeat for the home side. Credit to Merton, they are a solid outfit with a very strong spine, and they were very gracious in victory (thanks to their manager for the jug of lager – we will repay the favour at our next visit). For Norsemen, we look forward to the trip to Actonians on Saturday, knowing if we play as we did in the second half we should take something form the game.
MOTM – some great performances from the youngsters Michael, Kamali, Olly and Clifford, who showed great energy, movement and touch, so I’ll give it to the 4 of them.
