Overnight heavy rain caused the pitches on the main ground to be unplayable but good management over the years has left us in a favourable position with alternative pitches available we were therefore able to play all our home games.
The 1st XI continued their improved form with a hard fought 4-3 victory over Old Westminster Citizens. The Res XI kept up their promotion form with a 4-2 away win over HSBC we are well placed in this division with several games in hand over our rivals. The 3rd XI returned to form with an easy win 8-2 over Old Salesians and in the shock of the day the 5th XI beat the high flying 4th XI 4-3. A good day in all with our only defeat coming from our own hands. Results are improving as the season moves on and we still have the opportunity to turn it into one of our most successful for some years.

We managed to get 6 of our 7 fixtures played thanks to our ground staff for their hard work.
Not at ground this weekend so a bit light on detail. The 1st XI drew 1-1 with HSBC away from home continuing their improved form. The Res XI after many away games returned home and defeated Merton 2-1, this was an important win because they are also challenging for promotion. The 3rd XI surprisingly lost 5-2 at home to Old Stationers after their great start to the season they are having a bad patch but skipper Danny Green still managed a brace. The 4th XI got back to winning ways with a 4-0 victory at Old Parks which consolidated their place at the top of the table. The 5th XIs game was called off at Crouch End Vamps. The 6th XI fixture was switched to Norsemen at the last minute due to pitches unplayable at Old Stationers, but sadly went down 0-1. The 7th XI playing their first game for 5 weeks were a bit rusty and lost by the odd goal in a 5 goal thriller. We are still in good shape to gain a couple of promotions this season so it is important that we have as many people available each week as possible so risk the wrath of your partner and put Saturday afternoons aside for playing football. A Happy New year to my reader back in action this Saturday after a rain out last week and the Christmas break before that.
The 1st XI were not in action this week, the Reserves lost to a very good NU Oilers in the AFA Cup, this their second defeat to them in cup matches this season. They can now concentrate on winning promotion. We are well placed and if we can keep our heads as well as we did on Saturday we have a good chance. The 3rd XI had no game but the 4th XI bowed out of the AFA Minor Cup 4-2 at home to Old Thorntonians. The 5th XI lost narrowly to Old Garchonians 4s and the 6th XI pulled off a good 5-2 victory over Southgate Olympic 4s. Next week we have a full programme let's hope we can get the 2nd half of the season off to a good start. |
