Carrying on in the absence of our illustrious President who was still sunning himself at the weekend.
The 1st XI had a Home fixture against Old Salesians who managed to get a team to North London on this occasion and despite battling well fell away in the second half allowing Norsemen to run out 5-0 winners and maintain their charge for the Div 3 title. It would appear that they need 5 more wins form their 8 remaining games to guarantee the title subject to other teams winning their fixtures. Sadly we have to report that the Res XI will be relegated following their 1-3 defeat at Home to CEV Res XI. The team have battled well and have a good spirit, lets hope they stay together and come back stronger next season. The 4th XI had another victory making it 14 out of 15 victories and only have 1 remaining fixture this week. The 5th XI had no game this week. The 6th XI were held to another 0-0 draw at Crouch End Vamps this week, that is 2 0-0 draws in a season which is almost unheard of at 6th team level. The 7th XI lost 3-1 away to Old Lyonians which hampers their charge for promotion. Our President will be back for next weekend and will resume his reporting next week. A huge Congratulations to the 4th XI on winning the SAL Minor North Div 1 Championship with a resounding statistic of Played 14 Won 13 with 2 games to play.
Shane Killick has led this team this season and has produced some excellent performances. The team has always been close in the past 3 seasons as Runners Up of this division, but finally they have held it together and were duly crowned Champions with their victory on Saturday. With our President sunning himself in the Caribbean, I hereby bring you his report for last Saturday.
No games for the 1st & Res XIs due to having played many games, which allows for others to catch up. Sadly the planned friendly arranged for the Res XI was cancelled due to opposition unable to field a team. However, the 4th XI with a 2-1 victory over Alexandra Park 5th XI assures them of the League Championship that they have so deserved, but failed to deliver despite be Runners Up for the past 3 seasons. Well Done to Shane Killick and his team who have been outstanding all season. Walk Tall You Blue Giants!!! The 5th XI returned to winning ways with a very good win over Old Lyonians 3rd XI 2-1. An excellent 4-2 victory for the 6th XI against Old Stationers 3rd XI helps to keep them in the chase for their League Title, although it will be a tough ask. The 7th XI returned to playing again following Postponements and a lack of arranged games with a fine 2-1 win at Crouch End Vampires. Another Saturday with games hit by the weather, all our 5 pitches were fit for play, well done Brent and David, we hired one out, but our other opponents refused to switch grounds leaving them with unnecessary fixture problems later in the season. I think it is time the league bought in a rule that if only one teams pitches were fit then the fixture would be automatically switched.
The 1st XI returned to Hydeside for a game against our old friends Carshalton, the game was very competitive and very well refereed by Lee Addison. Our first goal came from a bad error by their otherwise excellent goalkeeper, they soon equalised and we won the game with ten minutes to go with an excellent team goal finished in grand style by the newly prolific Baz. This team has really prospered this season under coach Steve and seem to have got rid of their rough edges and now proudly turned out each week in their Norsemen track suits are becoming what used to be known as good Norsemen. The 4th XI won again 4-2 against EBOG they now only need one point to clinch their league title, a remarkable achievement at this early stage. The 5th XI lost their top of the table game against AP 6th XI 3-7 and now appear to have blown their chances of winning the league. Your correspondent is away for the next two Saturdays taking some sun, somebodies got to do it, I will leave you in the gentle care of Chunky to keep you to date with happenings. |
