Norsemen is a friendly local club, with coaches qualified from level 1 upwards, costs and playing facilities are very favourable in relation to other teams. James Corbett the coach of this squad is looking for two/three squad players for next season for the under 11 squad (school year 5 currently).
Norsemen provide some of the facilities in the North London, with some of the best pitches looked after by our 2 groundsmen and we also have new dressing rooms. We have a Soccer School at the club from 10.00am to 12.00 noon every Saturday morning, where we look to teach children from age 7 the basics about football with the aim of having them form a team and start playing in a league. All of our coaches are at least FA Level 1 or Level 2 qualified, First Aid trained and CRB checked. We are members of the AFA and currently have teams playing on a Saturday and Sunday morning in the Cheshunt League, Eastern Junior Alliance League and the Mid-Herts League. Our under 12’s have reached the Mid-Herts Divisional cup final, the under 13 Below is the Norsemen Under 9s team who have just beaten Wormley 2 – 1 in Phil Nicholas Cup Final May 2008. A few years on and four of this squad are playing football at a senior level, Martell Taylor-Crossdale for Chelsea & England, Alfie Whiteman for Spurs & England, Kieron Cathline for Watford and Paul Symes for Dagenham & Redbridge. This team was jointly coached by James Corbett and Colin Paris and was one of the most successful youth teams in recent times. James Corbett, the coach of this squad, is looking for two/three squad players for next season for the under 11 squad (school year 5 currently). We are also looking for new coaches for next season, 2015/2016 at various age groups, the successful candidates need to be FA Level 1 qualified. If you are interested in joining the club as a player or a coach then please contact us through the club website or call Chris Sears on 07885 807244.

A rarity at Norsemen FC, league football over Easter due to no tour this year, maybe it can be reinstated next year, but I doubt it we live in a very different world with so many things to do, those of us who experienced it can look back with happy memories those who didn't don't know what they missed.
The 1st XI struggled to get out a strong team due to holidays and lost 6-2 to Old Stationers, I am afraid another season in the third division for them, we really should with our history and facilities be playing above that level. The Res XI beat their only challengers NUFC Oilers for the 2nd division championship 4-1 and in doing so clinched promotion. Our team were really up for this match and got off to a good start with a goal in the first five minutes then conceded an equaliser shortly after. We took the lead with a brilliant goal from Charncey just before half time. We dominated the second half scored two further goals and thoroughly out played a good Oilers team. This game was played at a thunderous pace with total commitment on both sides, it was near to boiling over on several occasions and only due to some leniency from the excellent referee were there only two bookings one on each side. We have to do some serious thinking about the first two teams for next season, there is no doubt that a combination of the best players from these two teams would make a very powerful first team next season and we will also need a good reserve team to survive in the top division. We need to change the attitude of only wanting to play with your mates surely everybody should be ambitious to play in the highest side possible a difficult job for the Commitee but one that badly needs to be taken on. A BIG THANK YOU
To all the Norsemen players who stayed and presented me with such a good farewell moment upon my retirement as Club Manager. The whole thing was a total surprise and the gifts even more so, they are sincerely appreciated and the sparkly beverage will be downed speedily on a non driving day, so I am sorry but you won't be joining me on that one. It was great to see so many of you that have passed through the ranks from the juniors to boisterous twenties and now with your own families. The Norsemen Club has always been kind to me giving many treasured memories both on and now what seems like an eternity, off the pitch. Many great friends who remain true to our early days of fifty years ago. It's a great place for life long mates - so make sure you all make the most of it and do your best to nurture The Club through its difficult times, It will repay you in so many ways. Well that's it for nostalgia, looking forward is where I prefer, so best of fortune to the 2's and 3's in their quest for promotion and success to the rest of you in seeking beers and fame at the bar. Thanks Danny G for doing the MC on the night, a bit of luck that One Hundred and Eighty did not have to be called See you all soon Peter Withers It is with much regret that I have to inform you of the passing of a former ‘Great’ Norsemen characters, David Abbey.
He was 73 years of age and passed away last Saturday following a short illness. Dave played at the top level of Cricket for Edmonton CC and Middlesex CCC as well as one of our greatest 1st XI Goalkeepers for someone so short during the 60’s & 70’s. Always a great entertainer on the field and in the bar. Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time. RIP Dave Abbey!!! |
