Our first Saturday on our main ground which was looking a picture on a nice autumn afternoon.
The 1st XI were taking on local rivals Broomfield who were playing their first league game of the season, the game ended in a 2-1 victory for Norsemen with a controlled performance and again no cautions. It seems that the better we behave the better results we get, so let's prove all our doubters wrong and keep up the good work. This week we have a cup game away to Old Ignations. The Res XI had their second one goal defeat in a 7 goal match against Ibis. I am sure there is more to come from this side. The 3rd XI are in a state of flux with many of their regulars of many seasons not being available they lost 7-1 to Merton. The 4th XI had an excellent 1-0 victory with Billy Locke heading home the winner in the 90th minute against our local rivals Winchmore Hill. The 5th XI also had a well earned victory 4-0 over local rivals Winchmore Hill, who are always hard to beat at any level. The 6th XI had their fixture postponed due to Old Stationers sadly being unable to field a 3rd XI. Nearly a full fixture list this week lets hope for some good results

A mixed week, the 1st XI had a good win away to Kew 3-0, I have not heard much about the match, but 6 points after two games is an encouragement for Jack our skipper and Steve our new coach.
The most pleasing aspect, is fingers crossed, touch wood, our improving discipline, there is a long way to go so let's prove all the doubters wrong. The Res XI match against Old Lyonians was ruined by a bad injury to one of their players, it took 2 hours for the ambulance to arrive and meant switching to another pitch and a long delay which resulted in us losing 4-3. The 3rd XI lost to Old FInchleians with the fours and sixes also being defeated. The ever reliable 5th XI started with a victory a reward for all the hard work put in pre season by Paul and Jack. Another full fixture list next Saturday when we will have much earlier use of the main ground and hopefully a much larger availability. Norsemen Youth are proud to be a part of the FA Coach Mentoring Scheme.
Our Coach will be Rude Geohagen (@2juice) for this season. Norsemen FC are saddened to have to report the sad loss of their former U8-U9 Youth Coach Ian Sturrock who has sadly passed away last Thursday at the very young age of 44 years of age to Leukaemia.
Norsemen Youth wish to pass on their respects to Ian's family and will hold 1 minute's silence at all their fixtures this weekend. We started our league programme at the earliest date ever on Saturday, with the 1st XI having to play 24 league games plus 2 cups this season, it was great to get the first game played.
A largely unchanged squad of players from last season took on Old Lyonians on a very hard and bouncy pitch which with a strong wind made conditions difficult. We started slowly and were soon two goals down despite looking the better side we replied with 2 of our own including a penalty, only to fall behind again when the opposition scored twice more including their second penalty. We found time to score again before half time resulting in a remarkable score of 4-3 to the opposition. In the second half we had the wind at our backs and dominated the half to end the game winning 6-4, a good result but we have weaknesses in defence and have to hope that star centre forward Charncey Dash scorer of 4 goals is available for us on a regular basis. The game was excellently controlled by the referee, helped with the good behaviour by both teams, which meant that no cards were issued. Keep up the good work. The Res & 5th XIs also had a good work out in friendly matches |
