Presidents Day was a great success with record numbers attending it is gratifying that so many still wish to relive their happy memories of our great club.
This year we had members travelling from as far as Nova Scotia and Australia. The major disappointment of the day was the very late cancellation of the 1st team game at 12.30 on the day of the match, the pitches looked great, thanks to Brent and David and we ended up with only one pitch out of our five being used, with our 3rd xi dropping out of the league this season the SAL management has some major problems to sort out. A word on our 1st XI, I have been critical of their behaviour in the past, but this season as well as a 100% League record their disciplinary record has improved dramatically, last week their opponents had one sending off and five cautions with us receiving none. A disciplined team always wins out, lets keep this going even when things aren't working out on the pitch. The Res XIs poor form continued with a 5-0 defeat to Bank of England, goalkeeper problems again I understand. This is a rebuilding job for Steve Morgan and he needs support and help from us all. The 4th XI strengthened their position at the head of the table with a 3-0 win against AP 5s. The 6th XI likewise with a 4-1 win away to Winchmore Hills 8th XI. With no 1st XI game I am sure for the first time ever the 7th XI starred on the main pitch, a close match resulted in a 5-4 victory over APs 9th XI, a few knackered veteran players and referee!!!

Apologies to my reader(s) for last two weeks, one week I was censored and last week enjoying some golf in Spain.
As I said before we are having problems in the club at present, but this does not seem to be affecting our performances on the field with all our sides at or near the top of their respective leagues. Yesterday was mainly a good day. The 1st XI continued their 100% record in the league with a 3-1 away win against AFC Oldsmiths, they now have 15 points from 5 games a very good base for a promotion challenge, thankfully the more they win the better our discipline, a lesson to be learnt there. The reserves played the Vamps in the AFA Intermediate Cup having already beaten them in the league 2 weeks ago, this time the opposition were much stronger with at least one player of first team standard and we were well beaten 2-7. The 4th XI continued their good run with a 7-0 win against old Owens, there are some good players in this team. The 5th XI are top of their league and beat Old Stationers Reserves 4-1, a great result for Paul Docherty's boys. The 6th XI are now top of their league after a 12-2 victory against Old Parks in which 3 of their players scored Hat Tricks, in the Old Days the Jugs would have been flowing. However, it was good to see a side of new young talent making their mark as Norsemen. Jonah Trenouth making his Club Debut was a Hat Trick hero. Next week we are holding our annual Presidents lunch and are expecting a bumper turn out, there are very few places available, so contact Ian Charles if you wish to attend. This Saturday 22nd October is to be the Annual Old Boys Day / President's Lunch to be held in the Clubhouse from 12 noon.
If you are unable to attend the Lunch feel free to pop along and meet some old stalwarts of years gone past. It is normally a great occasion to catch up with former team mates of years gone by. This year we welcome some overseas guests who have been great Norsemen of years ago. There are very few seats available for Lunch due to the heavy demand. However, if you are interested drop me an email, we would do our best to fit you in. Email: ian.charles60@icloud.com Hope to see you on Saturday!!! |
