Met another Old Norsemen last week, Terry Mellis who still keenly interested in the club and sends his regards to his old friends excluding the Vamps player who wrecked his leg nothing changes.
The 1st XI made the short trip to Old Stationers expecting a mud bath, but a good pitch awaited them, we were 2-0 up within five minutes and went on to win 5-1. We still picked up a couple of stupid cautions which will cause suspension problems later in the season, when will they ever learn. This win takes us to the Top of the table for the first time this season, a good start but plenty of tough games to come. The Res XI have had a run of tough fixtures, had another this week and lost to NUFC Oilers for the second time 5-0, with 3 of their goals coming in the last 5 minutes, so not such a bad loss against a strong team. The 3rd XI were away in Tenerife celebrating the Stag Weekend for Fran D'Annunzio. Enough said. The 4th XI lost a top of the table battle with Old Parks 5s 2-3, a tough game but after going 0-3 down due to a couple of bad Goalkeeping errors, bounced back and deserved the draw, but could not find the net for a third time. The 5th XI had a great 6-0 win against the Hill to go top of Minor North Div 2 and look like putting in a strong challenge for promotion. The 6th XI had a heavy defeat against AP at home 0-7 and are suffering a lack of a Goalkeeper following the serious knee injury to Dave Stephenson whose out of football for over a year with a broken kneecap and badly torn ACL. The 7th XI had no game this week due to Members not having paid their Subs.

But we only had one of our games was postponed after a very late pitch inspection by an over cautious referee who was being assessed. Disappointing for our players and even more so for the opposition who had travelled from Harrow. The 1st XI after our earlier AFA Middx Cup debacle at Aloysians, travelled with some trepidation to Bealonians one of the stronger teams in the AFC for this AFA Senior Cup tie. A good pitch and clubhouse with a strong cross wind which made it difficult for both teams. Being with the wind in the first half led to our goalkeeper nearly scoring and we took the lead just before half time with a long shot which was deflected. The second half saw us play a well controlled game and we increased our lead with a good goal the opposition scored with five minutes to go leading to a nervous last few minutes before we ran out winners by 2-1. This team is showing improved form each week they are fitter and have a great team spirit if we can keep them together and control their discipline then we could have a good season. The Res XI had no fixture, but the 3rd XI had a home cup game against Fulham Compton Old Boys, we were trailing 3-1 with eight minutes to go but pulled off a remarkable come back to win 4-3 with you know who on target again. The 4th XI gracing the main pitch for the second time this season beat Wandsworth Borough 6-0 in the AFA Minor Cup. The 5th XI drew 4-4 away to Old Parks having suffered 2 injuries during the game. The 6th XI as mentioned above were postponed. The 7th XI lost out to AP 6-3. In summary a good week on the field with No Bookings, let's keep it going with everybody paying up to enjoy our excellent facilities. 1st XI v BEALONIANS A C 1.45 Main Grd

The 1st XI are a keen bunch with most of the team out on the pitch warming up 45 minutes before the scheduled KO time, how would Radio have survived in this regime? They beat the previously undefeated Old Lyonians 6-3 in an entertaining game. If we can control the rough edges of this team on the field then I think we can look forward a more successful future as there is nothing like good results to attract good quality players at all levels. The Reserves have been having a rough time in the top division of their section with a series of matches against the stronger teams, this week they drew 3-3 with Old Garchonians, an encouraging result every point we gain will be hard fought and we do need the help of some of our experienced players who are not making themselves available at the moment. The 3rd XI had a good win, 4-0 against Old Wilsonians with a third successive hat trick for the remarkable Danny Green. The 4th XI beat Old Owens 4-3. The 5th XI had no game. The 6th XI lost 4-2 to the Vamps, but suffered a serious injury to their Goalkeeper whose season is over. The 7th XI beat the Hill 4-3. The 1st XI play away to Old Bealonians in the AFA Senior Cup this week, a chance to test ourselves against one of the stronger teams in the AFC. |
