At last a touch of Spring in the air a very drying week had left all the pitches very bumpy but amazingly dry compared to last week.
I watched the 1st XI continue their good run, after two weeks off, with a hard fought 2-0 win against Broomfield. We have been showing promotion form in the last few weeks but we need the top two sides to drop some points for us to have any chance of promotion, all we can do is keep winning and hope that miracles happen. The Res XI & 3rd XI kept up there promotion bids with a 2-0 win over Carshalton and 3-0 over Southgate Olympic. Not such good news lower down with the 4/5/6 losing, but the 7th XI made it 4 wins out of 7 with a good away win against the Vamps. The 5th XI have now completed their fixtures for the season which must be the earliest ever, a price we are paying for being banned from the SAL Cups this year. An appeal to non playing Norsemen each week we need somebody at the ground an hour before kick off to Meet and Greet the opposition and referees direct them to their dressing rooms and pitches and lock and unlock the dressing rooms and then have a beer. Its not a difficult job but we have few volunteers and need more to spread the load. On a much brighter note, we all send our Congratulations & Best Wishes to our Under 13 Youth XI on reaching yet another Cup Final following their 4-2 victory over Welwyn Pegasus in the Mid Herts Cup. This Sunday they play their AFA U13 Cup Final, where they meet Whitewebb Eagles at Allbury Ride, Waltham Cross in a 1.30pm KO.

Another weather damaged programme, our ground was fit for play but we lost a couple of away games.
With the milder but wetter weather we are having, it is becoming increasingly difficult for clubs to complete their match programmes. A rethink from groundsmen as to what constitutes a playable pitch is overdue. On the first team pitch we staged the AFA Vets Cup well organised by Chunky. The 1st XI game was called off late Saturday morning for the second week running, a pity as we had a good run going. We have an important game this week against Broomfield. The Res XI suffered a surprise heavy defeat against Bank of England and had their money stolen from the Dressing Rooms, not a good day. The 3rd and 4th XIs had no games this weekend. The 5th XI had a resounding 6-1 victory over CEV having brought the game to Norsemen due to pitch unavailable at CEV, the 6th XI also had a good win 6-3 against EBOGs, both these sides enjoy their football and represent the club very well. I think despite some setbacks we are getting better with most teams demonstrating an increasing desire to be part of the club, as a whole we need to move on to improving the social side of the club with evening events involving our partners. I think we are all agreed that good skippers can make or break a team so time to start thinking about next season, we can have as many sides as we have good captains so if anybody fancies it, put their name forward or somebody else's if they fit the bill.
