No game for the 1st XI this week but with our two closest rivals both winning, we still need one point to clinch promotion, hopefully at Broomfield this Saturday.
The SAL have combined forces with the AFC and has launched a Spring Cup to give games to sides who have completed their fixtures prematurely, we have several of our sides competing with the Res XI losing a close game to Old Parmiterians 3s 1-2. Scott Jenkins was seen to miss a Penalty with the last kick of the game. The 4th XI securing a 6-4 victory over Old Manorians. The 5th XI were held to a 2-2 draw by Old Lyonians 3s. Back in the league the 6th XI had a good win away to Old Parkonians in their final league game. The 7th XI kept up their promotion bid with a 4-0 win over Old Lyonians 5s. Try and get along to Broomfield for next Saturday's League game where we hope to confirm our place as League Champions for 2016/16 season.

This coming Sunday 26th March, we are proud to be holding the AFA Sunday Youth Cup Finals.
There will be 6 Cup Finals played with games from U12 - U18 played on our Club Ground. 3 will kick off at 10am, with another 3 at 12.30pm. Please try and get down for what promises to be an enjoyable morning. At last a busy Saturday at the club which is good for the Sports Club bar takings.
We staged the AFA Vets Cup Final between two local sides Old Woodhouseians & Albanians 40 +Vets, this was a good standard of football and watched by a good crowd. Albanians won 1-0. We are missing out here we were one of the first clubs to have a Vets team, but have not had one for a number of years. There are many good players who have stopped playing recently who could make up a good team. How about it Guys. The 1st XI bumped from the first team pitch scored another win 5-3 against Broomfield which virtually clinches their league championship. We need one point to make this a mathematical certainty. The Res XI lost heavily in the Spring Cup to Hale End Athletic. The 5th XI clinched promotion with a 2-1 win against Broomfield Reserves. Well done lads, thoroughly deserved in what has been a good season for them. The 6th XI and 7th XI both lost to Winchmore Hill and AP, there was a suspicion of team loading from higher sides existing in both matches, we intend to follow this through the appropriate channels. The 1st XI made their second long journey to play Old Salesians and scored another 5-1 victory making them very hot favourites to clinch their league Championship in the next couple of weeks.
Another fine Spring Day at the club with only two of our five pitches used. On pitch 2 to help finances and provide playing time an inter club "friendly" was arranged between the 5th & 6th XIs. This was as competitive a game as any cup tie with the 5s coming out winners 3-2 and showed that the club has a lot of young players who would do well at a higher level. The problem of persuading players to change their team during the season is common throughout the league and the first club to manage it will soon reap the benefits. We have to rely on the integrity of the skippers to persuade their players that they can have a good game whichever team they play for and all buy into the fact that strength from the top downwards will in the long term be to the advantage of the club as a whole. The stamp pitch featured our 7th XI who have been on a good run recently playing Winchmore Hill 9s, a very good performance resulted in a 6-2 victory putting them at the top of their league, they have some extra fixtures to play, lets hope their legs last. This week we are hosting the AFA Vets cup final as well as the 1st XI playing at home against Broomfield and several other games so if you have not been down recently. This Saturday would be a good start. A case of find the game on Saturday the Res XI away to AP, a visit to The Racecourse proved fruitless, apparently the game was on at New River Sports Centre in White Hart Lane and resulted in a 1-0 win for us, a reward for the Reserves who although relegated have played well in the 2nd half of the season with plenty of good spirit I think they will do well next season.
The 1st XI travelled to Old Lyonians seeking revenge for their only defeat this season they achieved this with a 4-2 win. We are almost there but everybody is out to beat us so we must keep up our intensity until the end of the season.T he 4th and 5th XIs had no games but the 6th XI did their promotion hopes no good losing 5-0 against table toppers EBOGs 5s. Back at Hydeside the 7th XI, the young vets, were once again the only Home game against Old Owens, an epic battle ensued with us keeping up our promotion hopes with a 2-0 win. Apparently the two goals were laid on by the guy who got 5 goals the previous week and did not get a mention so to be consistent I wont mention him this week Well played Danny!!! |
