Was not around this weekend attending my younger sons wedding in New York, wow those Glaswegians can drink.
Disappointing result for 1st team losing at home to a new team who were only in the reserve section last season. This is going to be a tough league and without our strongest side every week we will not compete at the top which must be our minimum ambition. The reserves had a good win against Actonians who are usually strong and the 3s also triumphed against Vamps in their first league fixtures of the season. We have had a good influx of new players and the return of some players who had previously been with us. To be successful everybody must buy in to us being run as a club and not 7 individual teams and the need for our discipline to be much improved with minimum avoidable cautions. A full fixture list this week, lets get off to a flyer. The new league season starts earlier than ever this coming Saturday.
Obviously the first season under my Presidency was very disappointing, we did not achieve any part of my 3 year plan to get all our sides into the first division of their respective sections, in fact we went backwards with the first team relegated to the third division for the first time in our history. As I said on many occasions you only get out of something what you put into it and I am afraid that is exactly what happened last season. We did not have enough club loyalty rather than team loyalty, commitment to be available every week and to attend training, discipline and totally lacked what we used to be famous for Norsemen Spirit. So back to the drawing board it is going to be very tough to reverse many years of decline, many of the teams in the league are run in a much more business like fashion than ourselves and we have to step up several notches in order to bring success back to the club. I hear promising noises from our impressive new first team skipper Ossie, that we have had quite a few new players wanting to join the club and that things are shaping up for us having a stronger squad from which to select the first two teams. It is important that we keep all these new players make them feel welcome tell them to read the history of our club on the web site and telling them that if they cannot get into the first team there is an enjoyable game to be had in a lower side. Its time for the mighty NORSE to flex its muscles again. I intend to be in attendance on most Saturdays and can assure all the skippers that they have my full support in their task of restoring us to our former glories. I will also be continuing last years tradition of awarding a jug of beer to the team who I judge to have achieved the best result each week RET FREM!!! This coming Saturday 6th September sees the first of our SAL League fixtures for the 2014/15 Season.
At Norsemen FC we sincerely hope that we will have a much more successful season than last, which saw our 1st XI relegated to SAL Div 3 for the first time in the clubs history. We wish Osman Ibrahim our newly appointed 1st XI Captain, Best Wishes and Full Support for the challenge of restoring our great club back to the top level. This Saturday we have 3 League fixtures for our top 3 sides, with a full programme on Saturday 13th September. We wish all our sides our Best Wishes for the coming season. RET FREM!!! |
