Oh dear. How soon the optimism of a couple of weeks ago fades away.
The 1st XI only merit a brief mention. They played away in the AFA Middx/Essex Senior Cup to Old Aloysians started with 10 men had goalkeeper sent off after One minute for professional foul played rest of game with 9 men lost 8-1 words fail me. The Res XI goalkeeper did not show they lost 4-0 in the AFA Intermediate Cup against a team we should expect to beat again words fail me. The one bright light was the 3rd XI who continued their 100% record with a 4-2 win over Old Stationers well done Danny and team. The 5th XI and 6th XI both lost by the odd goal to the Vamps and the Hill respectively. The 4th XI and 7th XI were both without games. We now need to regroup in the higher sides or it is going to be a long season.

The first team travelled South to take on HSBC, that's Midland Bank to older readers, they drew 2-2 in an apparently ill tempered match I hear, rumours of a bad referee but, we cannot afford to get involved in these sort of situations. The Reserves played Old Wilsonians and lost 5-0, reinforcing what I said last.week about they being in a very strong league they tried hard but were beaten by a better side. The 4's had a good 7-3 win over AP. The 5's beat Lyonians 2-1 and the 7's drew 1-1 against Old Stationers. In all a mixed week we are still not as strong as we would like, both in playing strength and more importantly commitment, but we have a good committee who are working hard to resolve these problems. MAVRIDES Decided to make the trip to sunny Chiswick to see the Reserve XIs first game in the top division against a good Civil Service side.
This is a very strong league and they will have to play to their maximum each week to survive. After last weeks comments about the number of players in the first and reserve team squad, I was very surprised to being only able to count ten players in blue and no subs. After half an hour our eleventh player arrived. This is just not good enough, the first team had no game, so out of 37 people supposedly in the squad we could only raise eleven players. We are going to need a lot more commitment than that if we are to achieve our ambitions. Turning to the game our opponents were a good side and had numerous chances throughout the game but we fought a magnificent rearguard action with Jack Robery in goal having an outstanding game, amongst all this pressure we broke away and scored, then held on to this lead to win 1-0. A great result with spirit and discipline shown by the whole team, also well refereed with no cards shown to either team. This week is our first full Satuurday. So let's hope we can continue our good start COYN |
