Our illustrious President is sunning himself in warmer climates, so I bring you this weeks patter from Norsemen FC.
Sadly our 1st XI fixture at Southbank Cuaco was called off late on Friday due to unfit conditions. The Reserves travelled across the A10 to take on Winchmore Hill which proved to be an entertaining game with the Hill winning by the odd goal 2-1. Lets hope our Reserves take heart from this performance and get themselves out of trouble in their remaining 8 fixtures. The 3rd XI took on HSBC in a delayed start due to the opposition not having a kit available from the 10 in attendance. Norsemen duly provided a kit to enable the game to start 10 minutes late. HSBC showed some resilience with their 10 men, but went behind to a penalty before their full compliment arrived. The second half brought a good response from the Home side and went further ahead, finally running our 3-0 winners. HSBC had 2 players Sent Off towards the end of the game causing a melee in the middle of the park. Norsemen I am pleased to say kept out of the way. The 4th XI had the result of the day with an 11-0 victory at Home to Old Finchleians. Their talisman Shane Killick hitting 4, Bradley Brown 5 & Umit Alp 2. This keeps them well on track for a potential Championship place. The 5th XI lost heavily to Old Parks, although the Result looks worse than the performance. Hopefully they will get back on track this week at the Hill. The 6s had no game and the 7th XI had their fixture switched to a Home game due to a waterlogged pitch at Old Garchonians. They ran out 2-1 winners with the mighty Sean Lehane rising like a salmon to head home the winner. WALK TALL YOU BLUE GIANTS!!!

Our worst week of the season, one draw and five defeats.
The 1st XI playing for the first time in four weeks, made the long trip to Carshalton who were at the bottom of the league and drew 1-1, a set back to our promotion hopes, there are three teams in it and we travel to one of them South Bank Cuaco this week, we really need to win this game. The Reserves lost 3-0 to Polytechnic in the AFA Middx/Essex Intermediate Cup and leave our 5th XI as the sole survivors of challenging for a Cup this season. The 3's perhaps unwisely played on the big pitch and lost 4-3 to Old Finchleians. The 4's and 5's both lost to AP and the 6's were heavily beaten by the Vamps. Good to see Tony Papworth at the club, he collapsed whilst jogging last June and was brought back from the dead by his running partner who had training in emergency recovery. Following major Heart Surgery we are pleased to say that he has made a miraculous recovery. He shall now be known as Lazarus. I will be away for the next few weeks and will be handing my pen over to my able deputy. First Saturday after New Year break, the weather left us with just 3 games.
The reserves had yet another tough game against top of league Nottsborough and lost 5-0, they did not deserve to lose so heavily having battles well against a very strong side for most of the game. It was very competitive but this side has weaknesses in vital positions, which makes it difficult to be optimistic about their chances of avoiding relegation. However they play the game in the right way, have good team spirit and are good representatives of the club on and off the field. The 5's had a great win in the AFA Senior Novets Cup coming out on top against higher league opposition Old Finchleians, winning 4-2, this is another well organised side of which we can be proud. Good luck in the 1/4 finals. To put icing on the cake our struggling 6's beat Winchmore Hill away 5-2. Lets hope we can get the 1's back winning next week Well, the end of the year is upon us and I would like to wish all my readers a very Happy Christmas and A Prosperous New Year.
Last Saturday was not one of our greatest days. The 1st XI went down to our local rivals Broomfield, who sit as the base of the table. Enough said. The Res XI lost to local rivals Winchmore Hill in what was a very good game and although the Hill were probably the stronger side, our Reserves took a 1-0 lead at half time before conceding 4 in the second half. Probably slightly unfair as we had battled well throughout this match. The 3rd XI returned to winning ways following their Cup defeat last week to maintain their Top of the Table spot for Christmas, but made hard work of it against a resilient Carshalton XI who through travelling troubles started the game with 8 men. Fair play to them they battled well and only just lost 4-3 after a match reduced to 80 minutes. The 4th XI had no fixture and were celebrating Xmas at the Darts at Alexandra Palace. The 5th XI also retained their Top of the Table spot with a 4-1 victory at EBOG's, but sadly more poor discipline in this fixture. The 6th XI went down at Home to a strong Old Parks side. The 7th XI also suffered the same fate at Old Parks. Take Care all and as mentioned have a great Christmas & New Year. An important game for the 1st XI, meeting their closest rivals South Bank Cuaco at Hydeside.
A tough game ensued with a goalless first half and the play even, we took the lead thanks to a bad goalkeeping error but were soon pegged back by conceding a soft equaliser. Our superior fitness began to take effect and we won the match by scoring two good late goals. This team is young and fit and could go far, but another two bookings which we can ill afford. We really need to impress our own disciplinary rules, to try and avoid trouble at the end of the season. The Res XI, 5th XI & 7th XI were postponed. The 3rd XI reluctantly played their AFA Junior Cup tie on an artificial pitch and lost 3-2 to Old Parms. The 4th XI lost 1-4 to EBOG's 4s in theior AFA Minor Cup tie. The 6th XI lost away to EBOG 6s. Last games for 2015 this week lets end the year on a high note. |
