A rarity at Norsemen FC, league football over Easter due to no tour this year, maybe it can be reinstated next year, but I doubt it we live in a very different world with so many things to do, those of us who experienced it can look back with happy memories those who didn't don't know what they missed.
The 1st XI struggled to get out a strong team due to holidays and lost 6-2 to Old Stationers, I am afraid another season in the third division for them, we really should with our history and facilities be playing above that level.
The Res XI beat their only challengers NUFC Oilers for the 2nd division championship 4-1 and in doing so clinched promotion. Our team were really up for this match and got off to a good start with a goal in the first five minutes then conceded an equaliser shortly after. We took the lead with a brilliant goal from Charncey just before half time. We dominated the second half scored two further goals and thoroughly out played a good Oilers team. This game was played at a thunderous pace with total commitment on both sides, it was near to boiling over on several occasions and only due to some leniency from the excellent referee were there only two bookings one on each side.
We have to do some serious thinking about the first two teams for next season, there is no doubt that a combination of the best players from these two teams would make a very powerful first team next season and we will also need a good reserve team to survive in the top division.
We need to change the attitude of only wanting to play with your mates surely everybody should be ambitious to play in the highest side possible a difficult job for the Commitee but one that badly needs to be taken on.
