Probably our best results Saturday of the season only spoilt by the 1st team losing again.
The ground was looking magnificent on a very warm Spring afternoon pity a few more of our old players could not have stirred themselves from their armchairs to come and support the club where they have had so much enjoyment they could even have bought me a drink. The 1st XI played as well as they are capable of against a team who have not lost in the league for almost two seasons and who showed the team work of a team that play together every week. We are lacking that plus three or four class players that could combine with the promising younger players who are already in the side this would allow some our great servants to play an important role in adding experience to the 2's and 3's. We really need to have a better recruitment system, to build a good team we require players who are really committed and enjoy playing for the CLUB and all it stands for as well as turning out every week. Enough of my rant, the Res XI had an important win to relegation rivals and for the first time this season are out of the bottom two a bit of optimism there. The 3rd XI continued their run of good form and are in a close battle for promotion. The 4th XI are almost sure of promotion, a couple more wins will clinch it and this week scored 8 goals in an easy win. The 5th XI also scored 8 against Broomfield which moves them away from the relegation places. The 6th XI lost 5-4 and the 7th XI won the Presidents jug this week with a fighting 5-4 win against higher opposition. I am still waiting for our first unbeaten week lets hope we can pull it off this week COYN.

Firstly our grateful thanks to our committee and in particular our Chairman and Chunky for all the good and hard work they put in on Sat and Sunday in organising the AFA Youth Finals with not much help from the AFA on Saturday .
This is something we have done for the last few years and brings prestige and money into our club. The results this week were mixed with the 1st XI suffering an unlucky defeat to the Vamps which puts us on the fringe of the relegation battle. We have some tough games to come including two against the all conquering Old Garchonians, the first of which is at home this week KO 3.00 pm. We need to put some more points on the board urgently. Every week I seem to be complaining about lack of availability unless we can get that sorted then we never will have success in the higher sides, other sides seem to manage it why not us, answers on a post card please. The best result of the day was the Reserves winning 1-0 away to Lloyds after starting the game with only 9 men Andy Grant and his team have had a torrid time and it is great to see that they have maintained the spirit to pull off this result, a couple more wins will give us a good hope of avoiding relegation. They certainly win the Presidents jug this week which I shall buy them at their next home game. The 3rd XI got back to winning ways with a 3-0 win against AP who are top of the table we have a good chance of promotion if we can avoid our usual slip ups against teams lower in the table. The skip who shall remain nameless scored a hat trick and has now scored 29 goals this season, should he be playing higher I ask myself. The 4th XI continued their winning ways beating the 5th XI in an inter club game. Why we cannot get back to only one team per division is beyond me but presumably the powers that be know best ??, they now look certain to gain promotion that means that next season they will have to travel all over London so time to get that commitment from players and not leave it to the last minute. The 6th XI lost both legs of a double header 0-1 to the team at the top of the table both narrowly. I watched some of the 7th XI game, they are greatly improved but lost narrowly, they have several players capable of going up the sides next season so lets work on keeping them involved. Another important week ahead lets hope we can create some history and gain the first SAL victory over O G's since they joined the league. We can only do this if we can field our strongest side and with maximum commitment from everybody, COYBG Last weekend Norsemen FC were very proud and privileged to have held 16 AFA Youth Cup Finals over 2 days. 7 were held on Saturday & 9 were held on Sunday.
All went off very successfully and the ground was at it's very best. Our groundstaff must be congratulated for their efforts despite the recent weather we have experienced. Not a very good week results wise, but good to see the bar still crowded when I left the bar at 7.00 pm. We were pleased to host the AFA Vets cup final and hope that our visitors enjoyed their visit
This coming weekend we host the AFA Youth finals, another prestigious event to be staged at the club which is advantageous in so many ways to our club and an excellent effort by our committee to be chosen as hosts. Turning to results the 1st XI were leading 2-0 with ten minutes to go and should have wrapped up the match earlier before conceding a last minute equaliser, the Res XI lost heavily to the league leaders. My view of the state of this team I have already made several times, the 3rd XI lost 1-0 away to promotion rivals, the 5th XI shared the points in a double header winning and losing one of each, the 6th XI lost and the 7th XI scored a good win against Old Owens sixth team. Its about time we had a week when the majority of our sides won especially this week as we have 5 Home games and a club social evening at the clubhouse, lets hope this is well supported. Tried to be in two places at once on Saturday watched first half of first team game at Broomfield where we gained a welcome three points, opposition were poor so we still have some tough battles ahead if we are to finish in a respectable position.
Arrived at club in time to watch second half of the 3rds and some of the 4th team matches they are our two top performing sides. The 3rd team are a fine example of what a Norsemen team should be good on the field and off, leaders of the social side of the club. The fourth team I do not know so well but they certainly have some good players, hopefully they will stay long term with the club and move up the sides. The reserves continued their struggles with another defeat, they need help guys so if your team has not got a game put your hand up to help them out, we look as though we have a good chance for a couple of promotions to the first division so it would be a pity if we lose the reserves to the 3rd division. Lower down the 5's lost both legs of a double header to AP, the 6's took one point from a double header with Old Parks and the 7's were heavily beaten by Old Lyonians 4th team. Lets make a big effort for everybody to be available to make sure we finish the season well, it's still all to play for COYN |
