Winter is on its way and instead of the glorious weather of the last two weeks at Hydeside we were greeted by pouring rain.
The first team most unusually had a third successive home league game and continued their 100% record with a 4-1 victory over Ibis Eagles their goalie had a great game otherwise it could have been a bigger win. The reserves had a bad day losing 3-1 in the cup to Old Parks Thirds. Our Thirds also lost 5-3 to Civil Service both these teams need a victory to get their seasons going. The fifths continued their 100% league form with a 4-2 win at AP, and the sevens thrashed AP 7-0 how many goals D Green scored shall remain a secret. This week the firsts play their first away game at Merton a good test to see if we travel as well as we play at home. Mr President

Another glorious day at Hydeside with once again all 5 pitches in use and the results generally very good. The first team continued their good start with a comprehensive victory over newly promoted Carshalton by 7-3 the three goals we conceded were all from set pieces so some work needed there.
The reserves continued their winning start with a cup win 5-2 against Old Aloyisians we had a man sent off and some trouble on the touch line. After our bad record we need to be especially well behaved this season. The fourths had a great result 1-1 against Broomfield 1st bizarrely put in that league by the SAL. The fifths were our only losers narrowly in the cup to Old Albanians. The sixth had a great win against The Hill always very welcome and the sevens won a tight match against Old Lyonians. So far so good but I think the hard work put in by some of our members is paying off and we can look forward to a successful season. A beautiful day at Hydeside all five pitches in use and all well marked out and looking in good condition. The prospects for the new season look good following a lot of hard work by our Committee during the summer both in the financial and playing side of the club. And building a stronger relationship with the youth section.
The first team showed the fruits of an extensive pre-season ,6 matches played, with a commanding performance against Old Finchleians resulting in a 5-1 victory they look a good side in the making with 5 new players making their debut on Saturday. Welcome to our two new coaches Gary Harrowell and our ex player Gary Casey who are now in charge of both 1st and reserve teams something that we have been trying to achieve for some years. The reserves had a good win against Old Parks and the fifths and seventh also won. The Thirds fours and sixth suffered heavy defeats. It seems that some clubs have entered their teams in too low leagues which does not lead to competitive football for either sides. Let’s do even better next week |
